Harmonica Position Transposer

Welcome to my position transposer/changer for harmonicas. If you have a tab or a melody in first position that you want to see in another position, enter it in here and it will automatically transpose the tab to another harmonica position.

This is handy because a lot of tabs that are found on the internet are in first position, which is great for learning the melody, but may not be right for the song, especially if you want to play a bit of rhythm or groove around the melody.

Directions for using the harmonica position transposer:

  • At the moment it only changes the position from first position to second position (cross harp) and third position (slant harp). More positions coming later as well as changing from a position other than first.
  • Notes are entered in standard harmonica tab notation:
    • Blow notes are a positive number – blowing on hole three is 3.
    • Draw notes are a negative number – drawing on hole four is -4.
    • A semitone bend is a / – a semitone draw bend on hole two is -2/. A full tone draw bend on hole three is -3//, etc.
    • This is the same for blow bends (just not negative).
    • The system isn’t set up for overblows/overdraws. Maybe one day.

Note that some tabs don’t work in every position. That’s only to be expected. Not all harmonica tabs can be converted to all positions. Also note that this harmonica tab converted only takes melodies/tabs up to 20 notes. I had to draw the line somewhere! If your tab is longer than 20 notes, just break it up.
